Opportunity

This is a career-defining opportunity in Wakefield, Massachusetts, with a confidential employer that stands as the largest independent optical engineering group in the world. For over 40 years, they have delivered groundbreaking optical products and services across commercial, government, and consumer markets globally. You will step into a role where your code directly enables advanced metrology, inspection, and imaging systems used by industry leaders.

Your primary focus will be developing robust, cross-platform applications that interface with sophisticated instrumentation: cameras, motion controllers, and optical sensors. You will manage full software projects, write technical documentation, and provide customer support, ensuring each system performs flawlessly. This is not a crud-app job; it is real engineering at the intersection of .NET, Python, and hardware, where your problem-solving skills directly influence the quality and capabilities of the final products.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned software engineer with a deep .NET background and hands-on experience in instrumentation or device-level programming. You are someone who takes ownership, communicates effectively across engineering and customer teams, and brings the mathematical maturity to tackle optics-related algorithms. This role is built for a developer who wants to become the recognized authority on a product family and eventually lead a small, high-caliber team.

If you are a US citizen or permanent resident ready to create bulletproof code that pushes the boundaries of what optical instrumentation can achieve, this is your moment. The compensation is excellent, the stability is real, and the path to leadership is clear. Apply today to join a company where your expertise will be both valued and celebrated, and where you can make a lasting impact on technology that spans the globe.

Non-Negotiables

  • You must be a US Permanent Resident or US Citizen, as visa sponsorship is not available
  • You need a minimum of five years of software development experience in Microsoft .Net Framework
  • You bring at least three years of experience with two of the following: Linux, Python, or .Net Core
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • You are able to work on-site in Wakefield, Massachusetts, with no remote option
  • You have solid experience in instrumentation development, and any firmware exposure is a plus
  • You demonstrate strong object-oriented programming skills and a detail-oriented mindset

What's In It For You

  • This is a direct-hire position with full-time stability and long-term career potential
  • You will join a world-class optical engineering organization that has been pioneering technology for over four decades
  • You will have the authority to own a product family and become the go-to software authority for your domain
  • You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, gaining deep exposure to optics, instrumentation, and automation
  • The role offers a clear path to leadership, with the potential to lead the software group in the future
  • The company values self-motivation and offers a collaborative environment where your voice directly shapes product direction

Responsibilities

  • You will design and implement application software for precision instrumentation on the Windows platform
  • You will manage software development projects from concept to delivery
  • You will participate in engineering consulting projects to support client needs
  • You will maintain, support, and enhance existing product application code
  • You will write clear technical documentation, including user manuals for software products
  • You will provide direct technical support to customers and internal teams on software issues
  • You will help drive continual improvement of metrology product lines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or knowledge of optics, photonics, or image processing is highly desirable
  • You have worked with open-source software packages like OpenCV or LibGD
  • Firmware development experience is a strong plus
  • Strong mathematical aptitude sets you apart, as many of our systems require algorithmic thinking
  • You are enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to learn new technologies
