Opportunity
This isn't just another maintenance engineering job. You are stepping into a role where your technical decisions directly protect people, the environment, and a major industrial facility's operations. As the senior reliability expert for rotating equipment, you will be the go-to authority for everything from turbines and compressors to pumps and blowers.
Each day brings a mix of strategic planning and hands-on troubleshooting. You'll collaborate with machinery inspectors to diagnose issues, lead root cause failure analyses (RCFA) to eliminate repeat failures, and develop reliability plans that keep the refinery running safely. You will also oversee external repair shops, ensuring that every piece of equipment returns to service at peak performance.
We're looking for a mechanical engineer with at least 10 years of refinery or petrochemical experience who knows API, ANSI, and ASME codes inside out. You should be comfortable with vibration analysis, condition monitoring tools like Bentley Nevada System 1, and managing the reliability of complex machinery systems. Beyond technical skills, you must be ready to work an adjusted schedule during turnarounds and participate in on-call rotations, because reliability doesn't clock out.
The compensation package is competitive, with a base salary between $156,000 and $190,000 plus a 15-22% bonus, full benefits, relocation assistance, and a 9/80 schedule that gives you every other Friday off. If you're ready to take ownership of a refinery's rotating equipment reliability and join a team that values safety and excellence, apply today to start the conversation.
Non-Negotiables
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
- You must have 10 or more years of experience in refinery, petrochemical, or equivalent industrial machinery design, repair, and maintenance
- Working knowledge of national codes and standards including API, ANSI, and ASME is essential
- Experience in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and bad actor troubleshooting is mandatory
- You need exposure to steam turbines, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and compressors, lubrication systems, mechanical seals, and vibration monitoring equipment
- Familiarity with machinery performance analysis including efficiency evaluation, vibration analysis, and hydraulic analysis is necessary
- You must be willing to work adjusted schedules during turnarounds and participate in the on-call Mechanical Team duty rotation
What's In It For You
- You will receive a competitive base salary ranging from $156,000 to $190,000 per year
- A performance bonus of 15-22% is available, adding significant upside
- The company provides a comprehensive benefits package including pension, 401(k), and a 9/80 work schedule
- Full relocation assistance is offered to help you make the move
- You will have the opportunity to work with advanced monitoring tools like Bentley Nevada System 1, SKF, and Windrock
- The company supports ongoing professional development and values safety and reliability excellence
- You'll be part of a team that tackles real-world engineering challenges in a critical industry
Responsibilities
- You will foster a Goal Zero safety and environmental performance mindset while driving the reduction of loss of primary containment (LOPC) incidents for rotating equipment systems
- You will assist Machinery Inspectors with troubleshooting and provide actionable recommendations for machinery problems
- You will lead or participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and risk analysis investigations to eliminate repeat failures
- You will evaluate current equipment performance to develop and support short- and long-term reliability plans, capital projects, and turnaround scope
- You will develop bad actor resolutions, repair and maintenance strategies, and design alternatives that address safety, reliability, and operability
- You will review and develop operating and maintenance procedures related to rotating equipment
- You will provide scope definition and technical oversight to external vendor shops executing machinery repairs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with machinery condition monitoring tools such as Bentley Nevada System 1, SKF, and Windrock is preferred
- A solid understanding of basic instrument design and low voltage applications as they relate to machinery monitoring systems will set you apart
- Previous participation in refinery turnarounds and equipment overhauls is highly valued
- Knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) processes is beneficial
- Exposure to both centrifugal and positive displacement equipment types strengthens your candidacy
- Familiarity with developing operating and maintenance procedures for rotating equipment is a plus
- A track record of leading reliability improvements and mentoring inspectors or junior engineers is desirable
