Opportunity

This is not a legacy maintenance role. A confidential employer in Sydney is building wireless energy delivery through light—a first-of-its-kind energy networking platform—and needs an Embedded Software Engineer to write the control software that makes it possible. You will join a small, technically intense team that is designing and deploying foundational embedded architecture from scratch, unconstrained by past decisions.

Your work will sit at the heart of the product: real-time embedded systems that command laser alignment, enforce safety interlocks, and manage power conversion. You will architect middleware, implement communication protocols, and build automated test infrastructure that keeps hardware iteration fast and reliable. Every feature you ship will directly influence the system’s ability to transmit energy safely and efficiently, solving hard physics problems alongside hardware, optics, and mechanical experts.

The engineer who thrives here owns their code end-to-end and is comfortable making architectural bets that will scale for years. You are fluent in C/C++ on microcontrollers, you write drivers for CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART without a second thought, and you believe CI/CD and automated testing belong in embedded work. A background in robotics, aerospace, or safety-critical systems will help you ramp quickly, but the most important trait is the drive to create something foundational.

In return, you will receive a compensation package that includes equity, unlimited leave, generous parental leave, a wellness budget, and relocation support—even for your pets. You will have the rare opportunity to shape the software foundation of a category-defining deep-tech company while working with cutting-edge laser hardware. If you are ready to own the firmware of a platform that could change how the world moves energy, apply today and let’s build the future together.

Non-Negotiables

  • You must have expert-level proficiency in C/C++ real-time embedded systems with a focus on microcontroller programming
  • You must possess a strong, hands-on understanding of communication protocols including CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART
  • You must be experienced with modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and collaborative development workflows
  • You must be comfortable using modern C++ standards, not legacy embedded patterns
  • You must be willing to work on-site in Sydney, Australia, five days per week with hybrid flexibility, and qualify for visa sponsorship if necessary

What's In It For You

  • You will work on a first-of-its-kind wireless energy delivery platform at the convergence of embedded systems, optics, and power conversion
  • The position includes equity of approximately 0.1% with standard four-year vesting, offering real financial upside in a deep-tech company
  • The employer provides eight weeks of paid parental leave
  • You will enjoy unlimited paid personal leave
  • An annual $1,000 AUD growth and wellness budget supports your personal and professional development
  • Relocation support is provided, including assistance for moving your pets

Responsibilities

  • You will develop, validate, and deploy hard real-time embedded software on real hardware for laser alignment, safety-critical systems, and power conversion
  • You will architect core middleware for communication, state-machine control, and telemetry with robust error handling across the entire stack
  • You will write low-level drivers for microcontroller peripherals and communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART
  • You will build and maintain automated test systems and CI/CD pipelines to support rapid iteration on real hardware
  • You will own foundational embedded software architecture decisions that scale as the product grows
  • You will collaborate closely with systems, hardware, optical, and mechanical engineering teams to solve complex real-world physics problems

Preferred Qualifications

  • A background in robotics or aerospace is strongly preferred
  • Experience with hard real-time embedded software in safety-critical applications is highly valued
  • Familiarity with power conversion or laser systems gives you an edge
  • Knowledge of state-machine control and telemetry systems is a plus
  • A bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is expected
